Culminating Activity
Third grade students had a first hand experience in learning how and why people participate in government. During a visit to South Gate City Hall students had an opportunity to learn about how our city mayor, Mayor Maria Davila performs her duties. She explained about her previous involvement in the community, and about her duties and responsibilities as a mayor now. Students had an opportunity to role play a scenario about the different positions in the city council, and they discussed and created important questions as they prepared to interview Mayor Davila. This real life experience was the third graders culminating activity to their unit of study Government and Citizenship.
